Parenting Skillfully with DBT Strategies
With Dr. Kristin Daley
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a therapy that was developed to help people develop skills for managing intense emotions. At its core, DBT teaches emotional intelligence, and focuses on four key areas of emotional skills: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Dr. Daley’s group is intended to present parents with the key emotional skills required for parenting children whose emotions can be intense or who are navigating specific emotional challenges. This group is focused on parents of children who are aged 13 and up. DBT typically consists of 16 sessions, and this group will present the core 8 sessions (2 from each key area). A follow-up group will be offered for advancing the basic skills after the initial 8-week session.
